Questions & Replies

To encourage transparency and accountability, I will post here the reasonable questions about the City of Red Deer that I receive and can answer. Often, these are simply comments I’ve read and replied to on Facebook. You’re welcome to share the responses I’ve posted here—since they’re already publicly available—but please be courteous and cite this page as the source, including the website in your repost. Thank you!

Question:" Thank you for the response. Not sure I like your 'Homeless highway' calling of the historic train bridge. I like saving history rather than tearing it down.*

My response:

Well even the CPR was wise enough to abandon it in the 1990s because they knew it would be too much cost to maintain it. It's interesting that they consider it "historical" and yet they tore down the overpass on the south end which was built the same time as the bridge. They are replacing many of the steel girders. They are replacing the deck with modern material. And they're moving Bridge. By the time they are done it will not be the 'historical' Bridge that was built in the early 1900s.

This is nothing more than a vanity project. I don't think the homeless care very much about history as they're trying to find a place to sleep tonight because the city and province has decided to spend 22 million dollars on a bridge that was adequate for them to cross before versus better Sheltering. You are only the fourth person that I've spoken to who actually wants to preserve the bridge though, over 50 others that I have spoken to do not. Thank you for your interest and questions.
