Questions & Replies

To encourage transparency and accountability, I will post here the reasonable questions about the City of Red Deer that I receive and can answer. Often, these are simply comments I’ve read and replied to on Facebook. You’re welcome to share the responses I’ve posted here—since they’re already publicly available—but please be courteous and cite this page as the source, including the website in your repost. Thank you!

First question was sent out July 23 to Current Municipal Mayors and Councillors;
What are your top two concerns within your community and how do you intend to address them if you are re-elected?

My top two priorities if I am serving on our Municipal Council are:

1) Community Safety and Livability

I’m committed to making Red Deer a safer, more inclusive, and vibrant place for everyone. That means ensuring our Fire Services and EMS are properly funded and staffed so our growing city is always prepared. I want to create clean, respectful neighborhoods by reducing vandalism and graffiti, supporting emergency services, and fostering a strong sense of community pride. Revitalizing downtown—starting with Ross Street—is also a priority. By improving accessibility, supporting local businesses, and redeveloping underused spaces, we can make our city core a place people want to live, work, and visit. I also believe in enhancing accessibility and lowering costs for seniors and people with disabilities so that everyone can thrive.

To address these goals in the community, I will engage directly with emergency services to understand their needs and advocate for stable, long-term funding through city council and public budget sessions. I’ll work with local groups to organize community clean-ups, graffiti removal, and neighborhood pride initiatives, while promoting inclusivity through education and events. I’ll push for smart downtown revitalization by supporting small businesses, reducing red tape, and encouraging redevelopment of vacant spaces. I’ll also collaborate with accessibility advocates and seniors’ groups to improve trail networks, signage, and mobility options, ensuring everyone feels welcomed and supported in our public spaces.

2) Sustainable and Accountable Growth

I believe in smart, responsible growth that meets our needs without overburdening our infrastructure. That starts with maintaining and upgrading what we already have before taking on new projects, all while keeping taxation fair and reasonable. I support development on vacant, zoned land and investing in sustainable technologies and green spaces. At the same time, I’m focused on addressing critical social issues like homelessness by supporting affordable housing, rent controls, job creation, and long-term, secular rehabilitation programs. Above all, I’m committed to cutting wasteful spending and focusing on what truly unites us—putting the shared values of Red Deerians first.

In practice, this means advocating for critical infrastructure spending that prioritizes repairs and reliability, not just expansion. I’ll encourage responsible land use by supporting infill development on vacant, properly zoned land, and champion sustainable building standards. I’ll partner with local organizations to promote innovative solutions to homelessness, including supportive housing, job programs, and long-term recovery services. I’ll also encourage community input on budgets and speak out against unnecessary, divisive projects—ensuring that public dollars go toward initiatives that bring Red Deerians together and reflect the values we all share.
