My Cannery Row Project

From displacement to dignity: street to shelter, shelter to tiny home, tiny home to affordability, affordability to ownership. - a project I would propose (mostly with Prov/Fed funding for Cannery Row).

My personal 'dream' (not so much a solution, but at least better than the status quo) solution (which she doesn't care about): >If I had unlimited funds< or directed our finances into improving our infrastructure vs just expanding while band-aiding together what we have. I will do what I can to help everyone in our city equally, not just pretend they don't exist or create some label to make other people feel better.

There are a few options, but I’d like to see a new permanent, government-regulated facility that combines safe injection, recovery services, and overdose support all in one place. I also support building a tiny home village—or similar structures—to help get people off the streets, especially those who want a real shot at recovery (to a better life). I’d probably tear down a few of the old buildings (the old Fabricland, the old warehouse which is now two churches), buy out the contract on the school bus land, and start cleaning up the neighborhood. At the very least, we need to get the homeless off that prison-style parking lot behind Alpha and into a facility that treats them like human beings.

I recently saw a private citizen in Eastern Canada invest $4 million to build 99 tiny homes (the upper tier Governments kicked in $13M), while the federal Liberal government struggles to spend $250 million to build even one. Meanwhile, our city committed $9.5 million to rebuilding a pedestrian bridge—for selfies and homeless highways—something I’ve yet to hear a single resident (who isn't a developer, or has a financial interest in it) say they supported. We can do better.
