My Cannery Row Project

From displacement to dignity: street to shelter, shelter to tiny home, tiny home to affordability, affordability to ownership. - a project I would propose (mostly with Prov/Fed funding for Cannery Row).

Cannery Row Reintegration District

This would be my 'dream project', now whether it ends up here, or utilizing the buildings that already exist in a place like Michener Center, or even built on the edge of the City, the plan is to take people from the streets and work together to reintegrate them back into society. This would be funded from private sponsorship, donations, Provincial and Federal funding and grants. The only portion I believe our city should pay for is to provide the buildings and rent or lease them to third-parties. Again this is just an IDEA and not a final project that I expect for the City.

The point of the "district" is to take people from the street TO a shelter TO a tiny home TO affordable housing OR from the street TO a shelter TO Rehab TO hopefully affordable housing or tiny home as a temporary solution. The tiny homes are meant as a temporary 'stepping stone' not a permanent home, though this doesn't stop the City or a developer from creating affordable tiny home/container districts throughout the newer portions of our city.

Yes, that says Soup Kitchen. I want the current facility on 60th Street to be reverted to another use, it's time to centralize the services in our city, and stop the seasonal migration of our transient population all over the city. Bring everyone together in one place, give them the services to recover and rehabilitate themselves back into society.

As I mentioned, it's the "concept" not a final "project" that I include on this section. We need to work together with a collaborative society on a path forward in our city for homelessness and drug addiction.
A "first and more affordable phase" until additional funding were available to build the ultimate project below.
