Well I must acknowledge it has been a long time since my last blog and while there is no good excuse I am going to give you a few poor excuses. The biggest one is a lack of motivation. I have been working long, long to me, shifts at work and when I come home at night I lack any desire to do anything but watch YouTube videos and Netflix. This past weekend off, Sunday and Monday, was no exception however I did manage to get a few other things done that I can write about now.
The first thing I will write about is a special meet up with a friend I did yesterday. I saw Blossom again. She was the woman I had a ‘friends with benefits’ relationship back around 2010 that turned into real feelings for each other. We never pursued those feelings as we both had other lives to live. I will not write about her life at the time, but I will tell you about mine.
Around the time we met I owned and operated a used bookstore. It went bankrupt, that is to say that (sorry Microsloth but condensing those last five words into “I” makes no friggin’ sense) I went bankrupt taking the store down with me, in 2012. I think after that I was on social assistance for ten months before I was able to get my life back on track. I did that by packing everything up and moving out west (a story you have read about in here already).
So, getting back to yesterday. We met up, we walked, and we talked like the time between seeing each other had only been a few days and not six years. I do not want to write more about this since it is a current issue that involves other people.
What I really want to write about was my activities after Blossom and me parted yesterday. I went over to the store, not exciting, and then the park. It was the first time in several weeks I think that I got out of my truck and took a walk in the park.
It was a nicer day than the one they predicted. I think the worse part of the weather passed over our region and hit more to the east. I stopped at the park in Hanover, Ontario, down near the Saugeen River and walked along the water and through part of the grassy area south of the river. I took several pictures with my smartphone, many of which I uploaded to my flickr account, including what I believe to be a tree over one hundred years old. I will include a picture of it in this blog.
At one point I sat down on a picnic table and just breathed in nature. It would have been nice to hear more of nature, but Hanover seems to be a very anti-nature community. They have only a couple parks and the nearby industry and construction constantly drown out the sounds of birds or the wind in the trees. It is a nice break from the hustle and bustle but not one of my more favourite parks.
I did manage to feel better about myself, even with a nagging toothache, and for about fifteen minutes was able to relax and remind myself why I needed to get out and do this more.
The thing about walking in the park has been the weather. I abhor heat and humidity and Ontario has both in spades. I can not feel comfortable and connect with nature when I am sweating like a pig in plus thirty-degree humidity. And that weather happens for days on end. Oh, and before you blame global warming it is like this in July and August every year for decades so check that crap at the door please. I agree the climate is evolving but I do not support the theory of global warming or that we North Americans are a big cause of any change. That being said, I believe that Gaia will protect herself and humans are just another species that can easily be made extinct by the Earth.
So, my point of this blog was the importance of taking the time to sit and just re-connect with nature.
And it continues, last night when I got home, and the moon was rising up above the trees, I took another moment to connect. I was standing in the driveway, facing the full moon and just standing there in its presence. According to my calendar the full moon was on Sunday but last night, Monday, it was still pretty darn full.
The other reason not to venture far in the summer is all of the tourists. I despise trying to sit and enjoy nature surrounded by idiots with idling cars, stereos thumping and talking. Oh my god people you are in a nature park please shut the hell up! Why can people not go to a park and just enjoy nature. If you want to be outside with your music and your yapping, then go in your own back yard. I guess that was the one good thing about Hanover, the park for the most part was empty, just a couple people fishing. For a summer holiday week in August the substantial playground and skateboard park were both empty.
Anyways, I need to blog more and get outside in nature more, that is my point.
