I was just sitting in the park catching up on some paperwork when the paramedics arrived with their lights flashing. I did not think much of it until moments later when a fire truck and three police cruisers rolled into the lot. I quickly got out of my truck, grabbed my camera and followed them to the riverbank. It felt natural to me and none of the responders asked me why I was even there.
It turns out they were in the wrong part of the river so there wasn’t much to see. I asked one of the members if someone had fallen in the river. He told me he couldn’t confirm it and did ask me why I was there. I just said I happened to be in the park when they came in which he was satisfied with.
I went back to my truck and promptly tweeted their arrival to the local radio station. They added it to their stream and about five minutes later confirmed there was an emergency a couple blocks from here at the bridge. I would like a job where I can respond to emergencies and take photos for the media. It just felt normal for me to walk over at a distance, of course, with my camera ready to take photos. I would like the credentials though so I do belong right where the action is.
I managed to get some decent close-ups of the police vehicles, fire truck and ambulance which was neat and good for stock photos.
